CLCH, in partnership with local authorities in Hammersmith and Fulham, Westminster, and Kensington and Chelsea, is launching a new parent workshop designed to help families discover practical strategies to support their children at home.

The Children’s Occupational Therapy Service empowers young people to participate in everyday activities—whether it’s getting dressed, keeping up with schoolwork, or playing with friends. These tasks, while seemingly simple, can be challenging for many children due to physical, emotional, or developmental needs. This new workshop offers hands-on strategies to support children at home, in school, and in the community.

The launch of the OT Foundations Workshop marks a key milestone in the ongoing transformation of children’s occupational therapy services in the area. The initiative was shaped by listening to those who matter most—parents, carers, teachers, and young people. Their feedback directly informed the development of this workshop.

The OT Foundations Workshop is designed to be small, welcoming, and accessible. It is offered either:

  • Online: One session per month over three consecutive months
  • or
  • In person: Once per term across the local boroughs

Each session is led by two experienced Occupational Therapists.

During the workshop, parents will:

  • Learn how to set meaningful goals for their child
  • Identify their child’s strengths and areas of need
  • Discover which strategies to try first—whether before referral or while waiting for a formal assessment

We understand that navigating therapy services and school support can be overwhelming. This workshop helps parents clarify their priorities and understand how to access the right support.

It’s a practical, hands-on experience. After each session, parents will leave with strategies to try at home. At the following session, they’ll have the opportunity to share successes and challenges, and to receive guidance on next steps. After in-person events, parents will also receive information on how to access further support.

The workshops foster a sense of community, enabling parents with similar experiences to share what’s worked for them.

DownloadOT Foundations Workbook - we will refer to this workbook throughout the workshop.
